Apply for Malawi Tourist eVisa Online with Tripex
• Indian ordinary passport holders require a visa or prior authorisation before travelling to Malawi.
• India is officially Category One.
Category One means:
Visa or prior authorisation must be obtained before departure.
India appears as country number 15 on Malawi's official Category One list.
• Indian ordinary passport holders should therefore not rely on Visa on Arrival.
• Application can be completed through Malawi's official eVisa system.
• Applicant creates an online account.
• Complete traveller information exactly as shown in passport.
• Enter travel details.
• Upload passport/document scans.
• Upload photograph.
• Pay online.
• Wait for approval.
• Download and print the eVisa approval letter.
• Carry the approval letter when travelling.
Malawi Immigration specifically states that travellers should not travel before obtaining the required eVisa/authorisation where advance approval applies.
Passport Requirements
Mandatory:
• Valid Indian ordinary passport
• Clear scanned copy of passport bio-data page
• Passport used for the application must also be used to enter Malawi.
The official eVisa FAQ states that the approved eVisa is linked to the passport details entered during the application.
Passport Validity
The current publicly accessible Malawi eVisa information pages do not clearly publish a fixed residual passport-validity period for Indian Tourist eVisa applicants.
For Tripex operational purposes:
Recommended: minimum 6 months passport validity from the intended date of entry.
However, this should be displayed as a recommended operational requirement rather than claiming that the public eVisa page specifically mandates six months.
The exact requirement should be reconfirmed through the official eligibility wizard when processing the application.
Photograph
Mandatory.
A recent applicant photograph must be uploaded.
Malawi Immigration specifically states that applicant information includes:
• Passport information
• Travel details
• Photograph
• Supporting documents.
The public page does not currently publish an India-specific photograph dimension.
Tripex should follow the size/file specification displayed inside the live application portal.
Important Upload Rule
Malawi Immigration states that applicants must upload scanned documents rather than photographs taken with a camera.
Tripex should therefore obtain:
Clear scanned passport/documents in acceptable digital format.
Flight / Travel Details
Travel details are required in the online eVisa application.
Tripex should collect:
• Intended arrival date
• Intended departure date
• Flight details
• Return/onward reservation where available.
A return ticket is strongly recommended for immigration examination.
Hotel / Accommodation
Accommodation details should be collected for a tourist application.
Tripex Recommendation:
• Confirmed hotel booking
OR
• Lodge/resort booking
OR
• Host information where staying privately.
Because the public eVisa information page does not currently list hotel booking as a universal standalone upload for every applicant, Tripex should follow the exact document request generated by the live eligibility/application system.
Bank Statement / Financial Proof
The publicly accessible eVisa information does not currently specify:
• A universal minimum bank balance
or
• A fixed number of months of bank statements
for every Tourist eVisa applicant.
Tripex should not invent a minimum balance.
Recommended supporting evidence:
• Recent bank statement
• International debit/credit card
• Evidence of sufficient funds for accommodation, food, transport and return journey.
Where the live eVisa application requests financial evidence, submit exactly the documentation requested.
Invitation Letter
Not established as a universal mandatory document for an independent hotel-based tourist on Malawi's public eVisa information pages.
For travellers staying with friends/family or travelling under sponsorship, an invitation/host document may be requested.
Employment Letter
Not listed as a universal mandatory Tourist eVisa document on the current public portal.
Recommended only when useful to demonstrate the applicant's circumstances.
Salary Slips
Not listed as universally mandatory.
Income Tax Returns
Not listed as universally mandatory.
Aadhaar Card
Not listed as a standard mandatory Malawi eVisa document.
PAN Card
Not listed as mandatory.
Police Clearance Certificate
Not required for an ordinary short tourist visit unless specifically requested in an individual case.
Travel Medical Insurance
Not listed on the current public Malawi eVisa pages as a universal mandatory Tourist eVisa upload.
However, comprehensive international travel medical insurance is strongly recommended.
Yellow Fever
Yellow Fever requirements depend on the traveller's route.
WHO's published country requirement for Malawi states that a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required for travellers aged 1 year or above arriving from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission.
It also applies where the traveller has transited for more than 12 hours through an airport in a Yellow Fever-risk country.
For an Indian traveller travelling directly from India without qualifying Yellow Fever-risk transit:
The certificate is not automatically required solely because the traveller is Indian.
Tripex should check the traveller's complete routing before departure.
Malaria
Malaria is an important health consideration in Malawi.
WHO identifies P. falciparum malaria risk throughout the year across the country. Travellers should obtain appropriate medical advice about malaria prevention before travel.
This is travel-health advice rather than a visa document requirement.
Biometrics
No advance VFS/Embassy biometric appointment is specified for the normal online eVisa application.
Normal identity and immigration examination applies when entering Malawi.
Extension
The initial Visitor's Permit is generally:
30 days
and may be extended for:
Up to a further 60 days
subject to Immigration approval and applicable fees.
The maximum visitor period can therefore reach approximately:
90 days
before a different immigration status/permit would need to be considered.
Tripex should never guarantee an extension.
