• Indian ordinary passport holders require a visa for tourism in Mongolia.
• India is specifically included in Mongolia's official list of countries eligible for electronic visas.
• The correct category for tourism is:
K2 – Tourist Visa.
• Indian ordinary passport holders are not generally visa-free.
• The India visa exemption applies to Indian Diplomatic and Official passport holders, for up to 90 days, not ordinary tourist passports.
• No Embassy passport submission is normally required for the eVisa.
• Approved eVisa / ETA is delivered electronically.
• Traveller should carry a printed or digital copy of the eVisa when travelling.
Passport Requirements
• Valid Indian ordinary passport
• Passport must be valid for at least:
180 days / 6 months from the intended travel period.
Mongolia's eVisa system specifically states that the passport must have at least 180 days validity.
• Traveller should use the same passport used in the eVisa application.
If a new passport is issued after the eVisa, the traveller should carry the old passport linked to the eVisa as instructed by Mongolia's eVisa system.
Photograph
A recent passport-style photograph is required.
For the Embassy tourist-visa format, Mongolia specifies:
35 × 45 mm
Recent photograph
Clear face
Standard passport-style background.
Accommodation
Accommodation information should be available.
For hotel-based tourism, Tripex should collect:
• Hotel booking
• Hotel name
• Address
• Contact number
Mongolia's Embassy tourist checklist specifically lists hotel booking or accommodation information.
Return / Onward Ticket
Tripex should collect:
• Return flight reservation
OR
• Onward flight/train reservation.
Mongolia's New Delhi Embassy tourist requirements specifically list flight/train tickets, and Immigration may request two-way travel confirmation.
Financial Evidence
A fixed minimum bank balance is not publicly stated for Indian K2 eVisa applicants.
General Mongolian tourist-visa guidance states that recent bank statements may be requested as proof of sufficient funds.
Tripex Recommendation:
Collect recent bank statements if requested or where the applicant's circumstances require additional financial proof.
Bank Statement
Not clearly listed as a universal mandatory eVisa upload.
However, Mongolia's general Tourist Visa guidance states that:
Recent 6 months bank statements may be requested if necessary.
Employment Letter
Not listed as a standard mandatory K2 eVisa document.
Recommended only where additional proof of circumstances is useful.
Salary Slips
Not listed as a standard mandatory eVisa requirement.
Income Tax Returns
Not listed as a standard mandatory eVisa document.
Aadhaar Card
Not required.
PAN Card
Not required.
Invitation Letter
Not normally required for an independent tourist staying in a hotel.
However, Mongolia Immigration states that an official invitation letter is required in certain family-travel circumstances under the K2 process.
Travel Medical Insurance
Travel insurance is not listed as a universal mandatory K2 eVisa document on Mongolia's official public eVisa checklist.
However, international travel medical insurance is strongly recommended.
Biometrics
No advance VFS/Embassy biometric appointment is required for the eVisa.
However, Mongolia's official eVisa terms state that biometric details are mandatorily captured at the border when entering Mongolia.
Registration After Arrival
This is important.
Mongolia requires the:
Hotel
Host
Inviting individual
OR
Accommodation provider
to register the foreign traveller online within 48 hours after arrival.
Hotels normally handle this registration for their guests.
Extension
Important distinction:
The official eVisa portal states that the eVisa itself is non-extendable and non-convertible.
Separately, Mongolia Immigration publishes a general temporary-visitor extension mechanism allowing eligible temporary visitors to request an extension of stay once for up to 30 days, subject to Immigration approval.
Therefore, Tripex should not promise extension of a K2 eVisa. Any request must be checked directly with the Immigration Agency before the authorised stay expires.
