Uruguay

• Indian ordinary passport holders require a visa before travelling to Uruguay.

• Uruguay’s current Ministry of Interior visa regime lists India as “Necesita Visa (5)” for ordinary passports. Footnote (5) means prior authorisation is required.

• Indian diplomatic and service passport holders are listed separately as visa-exempt, but this exemption does not apply to ordinary Indian tourist passports.

• The visa must be applied for through the competent Uruguayan Consulate/Embassy before travelling.

• This is not an eVisa.

• This is not a Visa on Arrival.

• Prior approval from Uruguay’s Dirección Nacional de Migración is required before the Consulate can issue/stamp the visa.

• Passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and should be in good condition. Some official missions additionally specify at least two blank pages.

• A completed and signed Uruguay visa application form is required.

• A recent passport photograph is required. Current Uruguay MFA guidance commonly specifies a white-background passport photograph; some missions request a digital 1200 × 1200 pixel image.

• The applicant must provide a round-trip travel itinerary or return flight reservation.

• Confirmed accommodation in Uruguay is required.

• If staying in a hotel, complete hotel information should be provided.

• Uruguay Immigration may contact the hotel to verify the booking. Incorrect or unverifiable accommodation details can negatively affect the application.

• If staying with a private host, the applicant should provide full details of the reference person in Uruguay, including name, address and working telephone number.

• Depending on the case, an invitation letter from the host may be required instead of or in addition to hotel accommodation evidence.

• A covering letter explaining the purpose of the trip and intended length of stay is required under Uruguay’s published tourist-visa requirements.

• The applicant must demonstrate sufficient financial means to cover accommodation and living expenses during the entire visit.

• Uruguay accepts financial evidence such as bank statements or employment/income evidence demonstrating sufficient resources.

• Employment applicants should provide employment and income evidence as supporting proof of their financial and professional situation.

• Self-employed applicants should provide appropriate business and financial evidence.

• Students and unemployed applicants may apply but should provide appropriate sponsorship and financial documents where they are not financing the journey themselves.

• A personal interview with the Uruguayan Consular Officer forms part of the tourist-visa process.

• Because India is subject to prior authorisation, the application is forwarded to Uruguay’s National Directorate of Migration for consideration.

• The Embassy may request an apostilled Police Clearance Certificate / criminal-record certificate. This appears in several current Uruguay MFA tourist-visa checklists for prior-authorisation applicants, but the exact requirement for applicants filing in India should be confirmed with the New Delhi Consular Section before obtaining the document.

• Travel insurance is not consistently listed as a mandatory tourist-visa document by Uruguay’s current MFA tourist-visa checklists. Comprehensive travel medical insurance is nevertheless recommended.

• No standard vaccination certificate is listed as a universal Uruguay Tourist Visa requirement. Health requirements should be checked according to the traveller’s route and recent travel history.

• The visa processing fee must normally be paid before or during processing and is non-refundable if the application is refused.

• Visa approval does not guarantee entry into Uruguay. Final admission remains with Uruguay’s immigration authority at the port of entry.
