Processing Time
Nationality
Apply for Latvia Schengen Tourist Visa with Tripex
• Indian ordinary passport holders require a visa to visit Latvia for tourism.
• India is within the territorial competence of the Embassy of Latvia in New Delhi for Short-Stay Schengen Visas.
• Application is submitted through VFS Global India.
• Latvia must be the correct Schengen destination.
Apply through Latvia when:
Latvia is the only Schengen destination
OR
Latvia is the main destination based on the longest stay or principal purpose of travel.
If no main destination can be identified, competence normally falls to the Schengen country whose external border the traveller intends to cross first.
Passport Requirements
Mandatory:
• Original Indian passport
• Passport issued within the previous 10 years
• Passport valid for at least 3 months after the intended departure from the Schengen Area
• At least 2 blank pages
• Copies of passport identification pages
• Copies of pages containing previously issued visas where applicable.
Visa Application Form
Mandatory.
Application must be:
• Completed online
• Printed
• Signed by the applicant.
Official application system:

Provide:
2 recent colour photographs
India-specific Embassy specification:
35 × 45 mm
• Taken within the previous 6 months
• White background
• Clear facial appearance.
Travel Medical Insurance
Mandatory.
Minimum Coverage:
EUR 30,000
Insurance must:
• Be valid throughout the Schengen Area
• Cover the entire intended journey
• Cover urgent medical treatment
• Cover emergency hospitalisation
• Cover repatriation in case of death.
Round-Trip Flight Reservation
Mandatory.
The Embassy specifically requires:
Round-trip tickets / flight itinerary
The reservation must be valid with the airline.
Tripex should avoid asking customers to purchase unnecessary non-refundable tickets before visa approval.
Accommodation
Mandatory.
Provide:
• Valid hotel booking
OR
• Holiday-home rental
OR
• Other acceptable accommodation.
If visiting several Schengen countries, accommodation must be provided for each destination.
If accommodation is fully included in an approved Latvian invitation, a separate hotel booking may not be required.
Tourist Itinerary
Required.
For tourism Latvia specifically asks for:
• Travel-agency certificate confirming an organised trip
OR
• Another appropriate document showing the intended travel plans.
An independent tourist can therefore provide a detailed tourism itinerary.
Financial Requirements
Latvia's official current financial requirement is:
For a stay of 30 days or less:
At least EUR 14 per person per day
For a stay exceeding 30 days:
At least EUR 780.
Examples for short trips:
5 days:

These are minimum statutory financial references only.
Showing exactly the minimum amount does not guarantee visa approval.
The applicant's overall financial situation should reasonably cover:
• Flights
• Accommodation
• Food
• Transport
• Tourism expenses
• Return journey.
Bank Statement
Mandatory.
Latvia's India-specific checklist requires:
Original personal bank-account statement showing transactions for the last 3 months
The statement must be:
• Stamped by the bank
• Signed by the bank.
Income Tax Returns
Mandatory for applicable applicants.
Provide:
Indian Income Tax Return acknowledgement for the last 2 assessment years.
For Employed Applicants
Provide:
• Last 3 months payslips
• Employment contract
• Employer's statement approving holidays / leave
• Last 3 months original personal bank statements
• ITR acknowledgement for last 2 assessment years.
For Self-Employed / Company Owners
Provide:
• Company registration certificate
• GST registration number for an India-based company
• Last 3 months personal bank statements
• ITR acknowledgement for last 2 assessment years
• Business financial documents – recommended where relevant.
For Sponsored Applicants
Provide:
• Proof of sponsorship
and/or
• Details contained in the approved invitation.
Sponsor financial documentation may be required depending on the arrangement.
For Retired Applicants
Provide:
• Pension statements for the last 3 months
and/or
• Evidence of regular income from property or business.
For Students
For tourism, Tripex should collect:
• School / College / University enrolment evidence
• Student ID – recommended
• Parent/sponsor financial evidence where applicable
• Proof of relationship to sponsor.
Latvia's official checklist specifically recognises student cards/enrolment certificates for study-related applicants; for tourist applicants these documents are useful evidence of status and ties to India.
Invitation Letter
For an ordinary hotel-based tourist:
Not required as a tourism-specific document where hotel accommodation is provided.
For private accommodation, family/friend visits or sponsorship, an invitation may be required.
Where an official Latvian invitation is used, it must be approved through Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs and should generally be dated no more than 6 months before the visa application.
Biometrics
Mandatory where applicable.
Schengen applicants in India normally appear personally to provide:
• Fingerprints
• Digital photograph.
Previously collected fingerprints may normally be reused for subsequent applications within approximately 5 years / 59 months, subject to confirmation in the Visa Information System.
Children below 12 years are exempt from fingerprint collection.
Minors
If travelling with only one parent:
• Notarised consent from the non-travelling parent/legal guardian
unless sole custody can be demonstrated.
If travelling without parents:
• Notarised consent from both parents/legal guardians.
Also provide where applicable:
• Copies of parents' passports
OR
• Birth certificate
• Copies of parents' identification documents.
Aadhaar Card
Not listed as a mandatory Latvia Tourist Visa document on the current Embassy India checklist.
PAN Card
Not listed as mandatory.
Police Clearance Certificate
Not required for an ordinary Short-Stay Tourist Visa.
Medical Examination
Not normally required.
Electronic Travel Declaration – Important 2026 Rule
Latvia introduced an Electronic Travel Declaration system at:
from 1 September 2025.
However, a traveller who holds a visa issued by Latvia is exempt from this additional declaration requirement.
Therefore:
Customer travelling on a Latvia-issued Schengen visa:
No separate Latvian ETA declaration is normally required.
However, an Indian national entering Latvia using a Schengen visa issued by another Schengen country may need to submit the electronic declaration at least:
48 hours before entering Latvia
unless another exemption applies.
This should be checked according to the traveller's actual visa and itinerary.

Indian ordinary passport holders require a Latvia Schengen Type C Tourist Visa. Applications are submitted through VFS Global India and can permit stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
