Requirement
Indian passport holders must apply for a New Zealand Visitor Visa before travelling for tourism, visiting family/friends, or short-term study. This visa allows visitors to stay for up to 6 months or 9 months, depending on whether Immigration New Zealand grants a multiple-entry or single-entry visa. Visitors cannot work in New Zealand, but they can study for up to 3 months.
Immigration New Zealand requires applicants to provide identity proof, photos, proof of funds, genuine travel plans, and proof that they can leave New Zealand at the end of their stay. The passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the planned departure date from New Zealand.
Applicants must show enough money to cover their stay in New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand states that visitors should have at least NZD 1,000 per month, or NZD 400 per month if accommodation is already paid.
Recommended financial documents include:
The India checklist specifically mentions bank statements or payslips for the previous 3 months, income tax returns for the last 2 years, credit card statements, and other fund evidence.
For employees:
For business owners:
For students:
For retired applicants:
Immigration New Zealand asks for evidence of home-country circumstances, such as employment, business ownership, study, family ties, assets, or pension proof, to assess whether the applicant is likely to return after the trip.
If travelling with family:
Partners and dependent children can be included in the application, but relationship evidence such as marriage or birth certificates may be required.
The India checklist also recommends including a cover letter, daily itinerary, previous visas, and Aadhaar card.
A chest X-ray may be required for stays longer than 6 months, and a medical certificate may be required for stays longer than 12 months. Police certificates may be required in certain cases, especially where the applicant’s total stay in New Zealand reaches 24 months or more.
Visitors must have genuine reasons to travel, enough funds, and a clear intention to leave New Zealand before the visa expires. Immigration New Zealand may refuse a visa if the applicant does not provide enough evidence or gives false or misleading information.
