Uganda

Exact Requirements:

• Indian ordinary passport holders require a visa to travel to Uganda.

• India is not included on Uganda's ordinary-passport visa-exemption list. India appears only under Uganda's exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports. Therefore, an Indian ordinary passport holder travelling as a tourist requires a visa.

• The Uganda tourist visa must be obtained online before travel.

• Uganda Immigration specifically states that visa-prone travellers must apply online and obtain a Travel Authorisation / Visa Approval Letter before travelling.

• Visa on Arrival is not available for visa-prone travellers. Uganda Immigration states that visas are no longer issued on arrival.

• Passport must be valid for at least 6 months.

• A clear copy of the passport bio-data page must be uploaded.

• A recent passport-size photograph is required.

• A tour plan is specifically required for tourism applications.

• A travel itinerary / travel booking is specifically required.

• Hotel booking or reservation is required. If the tourist is staying somewhere other than a hotel, the accommodation address must be provided.

• A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate should be treated as a mandatory Uganda visa/travel document. Uganda Immigration's general online visa procedure lists the Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate among visa application documents, and official Ugandan mission guidance states that it is required for visa applicants.

• Where a traveller is medically unable to receive the Yellow Fever vaccine, official Ugandan mission guidance states that a doctor's exemption letter should be uploaded.

• Yellow Fever vaccination generally becomes valid for international travel 10 days after vaccination. Uganda Immigration also confirms the 10-day rule in its Yellow Fever travel advisory.

• Applicants should therefore arrange Yellow Fever vaccination sufficiently before travel.

• Return/onward travel evidence should be carried. The current tourist-specific Immigration checklist asks for a travel itinerary/booking, while official Ugandan mission guidance separately identifies a return ticket as additional visa/travel information.

• A personal bank statement is not listed among the standard mandatory documents on Uganda Immigration's current Tourist Visa page.

• Income Tax Returns, Form 16 and salary slips are not listed as standard mandatory Tourist eVisa documents.

• Employment proof is not listed as a mandatory standard tourism document.

• Aadhaar card is not listed as a mandatory Uganda Tourist eVisa document.

• Travel insurance is not listed as a mandatory standard Tourist Visa application document by Uganda Immigration. Comprehensive international travel medical insurance is nevertheless recommended.

• An invitation letter is not required for a normal tourist staying in a hotel.

• For a family/private visit, Uganda Immigration requires an invitation letter and evidence of the host's immigration status. That is a different supporting-document set from ordinary tourism.

• All uploaded documents should be in English. Uganda Immigration states that documents attached to the visa application should be in English.

• Immigration may request additional documents while processing the application.

• After submission, the applicant receives an application/reference number that can be used to track the application.

• Once approved, a Visa Approval Letter / Travel Authorisation is sent electronically.

• The traveller should print the approval letter and carry it while travelling.

• On arrival, the applicant must present the valid passport and visa approval authorisation and report for immigration/biometric formalities.

• All travellers entering Uganda currently must also comply with applicable Ministry of Health traveller-health declaration requirements. Uganda's Ministry of Health currently operates an online traveller arrival declaration system.

• Visa approval does not guarantee entry. Final admission and the period of stay are determined by Uganda Immigration at the port of entry.
